Education
Every child in Chatham County should have an opportunity to receive a
high-quality education. An important part of fulfilling that
commitment is through the support of our
teachers by ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources.
Community involvement and corporate partnerships are also important components that we should leverage.
Performance should be equal to spending. Despite yearly increases, it has become clear that more money alone will not yield better results.
There are steps we can take toward improving our
education systems in
- Promote Student Citizenship
-
Create student leadership programs – involve business & government
leaders
-
Involve youth in their county government
-
Prepare students for business careers through internships with local
businesses.
-
Focus on what’s good for students, not good for school.
-
More Science Education
- Start focusing on high standards and accountability.
I believe in ensuring that our children have access
to the best educational opportunities possible through fiscal and academic
accountability and educational choice.
Making Science Make Sense
As a strong supporter of science education, I lead a local
volunteer group for Bayer’s Award Winning “Making Science Make Sense”
science education reform program that promotes science education in area
schools through hands on training and education.
